Several Things To Remember

Medicine Chest

Europeans are very casual dressers

Casual pants are accepted in most restaurants and theaters. (not jeans)

Most of Europe will be considerably cooler than you expect.

Try to coordinate your clothes, use scarves or sweaters for variety.

Most people have certain favorite "over the counter" medications for "chills & ills". It is just as easy to get a headache or catch a cold while on vacation as it is at home, so be prepared. Also, don't forget to take enough of the prescription medications that you take on a regular basis, along with a written prescription (you may lose the bottle or need a refill) Here's a list to get you started:

Overcast and rainy days are quite common so make sure that your outerwear is waterproof as well as warm

Pain Reliever: Aspirin, Tylenol, Ibuprofen

Antacid Tablets

Wear "well broken in" shoes. Most travelers will walk between 5-7 miles per day. If your shoes are uncomfortable, you will be miserable

Pepto Bismol Tablets

Cold Remedy Tablets (decongestant & antihistamine

Limit yourself to 1 suitcase with wheels per person

Mild Laxative

Imodium Diarrhea Tablets

Plan to take a medium sized carry-on bag

During the flight this can hold your camera and other valuables. While on your trip it can be used as an overnight bag allowing you to leave the larger suitcase in the trunk of your car or you can place it in a coin/lock luggage locker in the train station.

Several Band-Aids (for blisters etc.)

Extra set of contact lenses or glasses along with your prescription

Odds & Ends

Ziplock bags (various sizes for shoes, swimsuits and leaky bottles.

Extra camera battery (often available but not when you need it)

Rubber bands and safety pins

Appropriate converter plugs

Pocket sewing kit

Shoulder tote bag or lightweight day pack

Extra pen. Pencil, and notepad

Wash-n- Dry towels, bottle/wine/can opener, small spoon/knife/fork

Deck of cards (great for long plane & train rides)
